ChevronTexaco Names John W. McDonald Vice President, Strategic Planning

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 31, 2002 -- ChevronTexaco Corp. (NYSE: CVX) today announced that John W. McDonald, 50, will become a corporate vice president and will head the company's strategic planning activities effective November 1. McDonald replaces Pat Yarrington, who was recently named Vice President, Public & Government Affairs.

"John brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge of ChevronTexaco businesses, which provides a solid foundation for our future strategic planning activities," said Dave O'Reilly, ChevronTexaco chairman and chief executive officer. "He has successfully led a number of significant company businesses, both internationally and in the United States, and has excelled by pursuing business strategies that are both realistic and challenging."

McDonald, who joined ChevronTexaco in 1975, most recently served as managing director of the European business unit of ChevronTexaco Overseas Petroleum Inc. and was based in London and Aberdeen, U.K. From 1996 to 1998 he was vice president of Exploration and Production, Offshore Division, located in New Orleans. In this role he was responsible for all Gulf of Mexico E&P activities, including deep water operations. From 1994 to 1996, McDonald served as assistant division manager of Exploration and Production, Onshore Division, also in New Orleans.

From 1992 to 1994, McDonald was assigned to the corporation's executive offices as assistant to the chairman of the company. He served as strategic advisor in the strategic planning group from 1991 to 1992.

McDonald, a U.S. citizen, was born in Ontario, Canada. He has an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in geophysics from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He has been an active member of numerous business and civic organizations, including serving as the most recent past president and executive officer of the United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association and as a member of the United Kingdom Industry/Government Forum, known as PILOT. McDonald also is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
