ChevronTexaco Natural Gas Appoints Leadership Team
HOUSTON, Feb 4, 2003 -- ChevronTexaco Corp. (NYSE: CVX) today announced the following appointments within ChevronTexaco Natural Gas (CTNG), the company's new U.S. wholesale natural gas marketing unit.

  • Don Haley - Vice President Trading
  • Steve Wilson - Vice President Marketing
  • Charlie Mertz - Director Supply and Fuels Management

The selected individuals will report to Randy Curry, president of CTNG. "Each of these individuals brings a considerable amount of industry experience and proven leadership capabilities to our new organization, and we look forward to positioning CTNG to be a strong player in the North American natural gas market," said Curry.

Don Haley - Vice President Trading

Haley will be responsible for the daily management of the overall sales and supply portfolio for CTNG. He joined Chevron in 1980 and has held a variety of engineering, finance and trading positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to the ChevronTexaco merger, Haley was general manager, trading & risk management, for the Caltex joint venture based in Singapore. Most recently, Haley was vice president & general manager, risk management & financial trading, for ChevronTexaco Global Trading / Fuel & Marine Marketing (GT/FAMM). He holds a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Steve Wilson - Vice President Marketing

Wilson will be responsible for developing long-term natural gas sales agreements, primarily with utility and industrial customers across the United States. Wilson joined Tenneco Oil in 1980 and worked in a variety of upstream engineering and operations assignments at Tenneco and Chevron prior to joining Chevron's natural gas business unit (NGBU) in 1989. He worked in various marketing roles in NGBU before joining NGC (Dynegy) in 1996. Steve has held several marketing leadership positions while at Dynegy, and most recently was the senior vice president Gulf Coast Marketing. Wilson holds a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from Louisiana Tech University.

Charlie Mertz - Director Supply and Fuels Management

Mertz will direct the supply management activities for the company refineries, cogeneration partnerships and chemical plant facilities. In addition, he will be responsible for procuring long-term supply from third party producers. He has held a variety of land and natural gas marketing roles at Apache, MidCon and Conoco Inc. in Denver before joining NGC/Dynegy in 1990. Most recently, Mertz served as director of long term supply and producer services at Dynegy, with primary responsibility for the ChevronTexaco account. He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Oklahoma State University.

As stated in a recent press release, ChevronTexaco has reached agreement with Dynegy to terminate their natural gas purchase and sale contracts and related agreements effective Feb. 1, 2003. Dynegy will market ChevronTexaco's natural gas in an agency role through March 2003, and will provide other related transition services to ensure obligations to customers continue to be met during the transition period. ChevronTexaco's new wholesale natural gas marketing unit, ChevronTexaco Natural Gas, will be fully operational for April 2003 business.
